r. Fiorinis Graduate Degree in Electronics Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, in 1975, included a specialty on Biomedical Engineering 2-D FFT interpolation and application to body surface mapping and computatinal cardiography, in cooperation with Prof. Bruno Taccardi, SIMES S.p.A., Italy, and later at University of Utah Health Sciences Center, Utah, U.S.A. During his thesis development dr. Fiorini got involved into Biosignal Transduction, Psychophysiology, Advanced Statistical and Signal Analysis, Sampling Theory, Image Processing, Image Quality Control and Simulation of Multi-Dimensional Biomedical Data at the Biomedical Engineering Research Group, Istituto di Macchine, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, and C.N.P.M., Advanced Research Facility, Linate (MI), Italy, under Prof. Corrado Casci's direction and supervision. In 1978, Dr. Fiorini received the "Energetics Fellowship Award" from
the Italian Ministry of Research and University, and began to attend Politecnico di Milano
and Bocconi University - School of Economics in Italy (Milan), specializing in Energetics (Energy Systems Security, Safety and
Strategic Management). He gave Lectures, Seminars and Courses on Clinical Laboratory Instrumentation Systems and Quality Management, Systems Optimal Control, Renouvable Energy Sources Strategic Management, Complex Systems Real-Time Optimal Control at
Politecnico di Milano. Dr. Fiorini's research activities, at Politecnico di Milano, gave a key contribution to the development of new self-calibrating digital telethermographic instrumentation for cardio-surgical and brain-surgical applications, new real-time multi-microprocessor control systems for laboratory and industrial applications, and the VIPS (Vital Image Processing Software) software package. VIPS is a software simulation package research tool, developed under a research cooperation between "Dipartimento di Energetica" and "Dipartimento di Elettronica", devoted to the analysis and synthesis of scientific digital signal and images for tele-thermographic and bio-electro-optical applications. In 1990, Dr. Fiorini joined the brand new Bioengineering Department (in Italian: Dipartimento di Ingegneria Biomedica), at Politecnico di Milano, created by Prof. Emanuele Biondi, as a full-time Senior Academic Scientist, teaching Courses and Seminars on Advanced Optimal Biomedical Instrumentation,
Optimal Inferential Techniques for Reliable Dataset Forecasting, Quality Control,
Mathematical and Statistical Techniques for Advanced Biomedical Multi-Dimensional Dataset Analysis and Simulation.
Since 1994, at Politecnico di Milano, Facolta' II: Ingegneria dei Sistemi, Dipartimento di Ingegneria Biomedica (Biomedical Engineering Department), Dr. Fiorini's research activities are giving a tangible contribution to the development of new generation Biomedical Instrumentation Systems and Guidelines, to the creation of new Biomedical Professionals, Cybiometrics Systems, Strategic Active Support Systems for Healthcare Business to shape the Biotechnology Laboratory and the Hospital of the Future to human life, public health and wellness. An updated, recent, scientific and research interest list is available here (by typing "Fiorini" in the "Search for Members" slot). |

uring Summer 1982, Dr. Fiorini was invited by Prof. Robert H. Cannon Jr. to join Prof. J. David Powell's Research Group to contribute to a joint research project between the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department, Stanford University (SU), California, on Numeric Estimation Theory applied to Real-Time Optimal Digital Control. That was his right opportunity to get closely acquainted with the American System of Higher Education, Guidance and Control AA Stanford Program, Precise Control of Flexible Manipulators, Free-flying Space Robotic Systems, Multi-arm Cooperating Manipulation Systems, the Stanford Orbiting Gyro Test of General Relativity (accuracy < .001 arcsecond per year), Prof. Daniel DeBra, Prof. John V. Breakwell, Prof. Gene F. Franklin, Prof. Arthur E. Bryson, GPS based aircraft and ground vehicle navigation, and to specialize in higher precision and performance computational algorithms and systems for aerospace, aeronautics and automotive applications. Since 1982, Dr. Fiorini spent almost half a year in the USA for Research Activities, Seminars, Presentations and Academic Courses, every year. Dr. Fiorini's research activities contributed to the design and development of new real-time multi-protocol data acquisition systems, experimental internal combustion engine real-time digital control laboratory and industrial test-bench and the creation of multi-dimensional experimental signal fiduciary databases for real-time optimal digital control algorithm assessment and validation. In 1987 Dr. Fiorini was invited to join the Research Group on Intelligent Networking at the Computer Science Department, chaired by Prof. Gerald Estrin, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). For about two further years Dr. Fiorini has been living in Los Angeles further specializing in Cognitive Psychology, Emotion Evaluation and Measurement, Sensory Deprivation, Lucid Dreaming, Decision Theories, Data Dictionaries, Automatic Intelligence Capture and Formalization, Autonomous Intelligent Networking, Telepresence, Machine Learning, Evolutionary Computing, Genetic Algorithms, Inferential Techniques to Distill Knowledge from Massive Databases, Artificial Environments, Distributed System Management Strategy Theory and Enterprise Strategic Management. Since 1989, Dr. Fiorini has been spending almost half a year in the U.S.A., for International Conferences, Seminars, Presentations and Training Courses to Private Institutions, almost every year. |
